altKnox Orthopaedic Clinic is based in Wantirna in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria Australia.  We are located approximately 45 minutes from the CBD.  You will need to park in the Knox Private Hospital carpark to access our rooms.  Car parking fees apply and are payable on leaving the hospital carpark.  Pay stations are located in the hospital building or you can pay using your credit card at the boom gate.

Mr Donohue is highly experienced in both acute and chronic orthopaedic problems including:
  • Acute sports injuries including treatment of fractures
  • Arthroscopic surgery of the knee, shoulder and ankle

We continually keep up to date with the latest advances in medical treatment and keep abreast of the ever changing technological advances in regards to the equipment we use.

We pride ourselves on offering the best care to our patients by not only providing a comprehensive evaluation and opinion, but for also offering our patients full consensual information for their operative procedures including the advantages and disadvantages when considering surgery versus conservative treatment.  Should you chose to undergo a surgical procedure our experienced office personnel will guide you through the process with full details regarding out of pocket costs, admission information and general advice regarding your forthcoming operation.

Mr Donohue welcomes Workcover and TAC patients, however it is necessary that you provide your Workcover or TAC details at the time of your first consultation.

Mr Donohue does not treat back or neck problems.  However, should you have a back or neck problem the secretarial staff at Knox Orthopaedic Clinic would be only too happy to offer suggestions of whom to see, or you can contact your local doctor to obtain a referral to a specialist back/neck surgeon.

Private Hospital Appointments

Mr Donohue performs the majority of his surgery at Knox Private Hospital, which is adjacent to the consulting rooms 3 to 4 times weekly.  Knox Private Hospital is a fully accredited hospital owned by Healthscope, one of the largest groups running private hospitals throughout Australia.  Not only is it fully accredited but it also has excellent specialist facilities including Intensive Care and Coronary Care, as well as a large Accident & Emergency Department.  There are doctors in the hospital 24 hours per day.  It has a dedicated orthopaedic ward with modern operating suites with dedicated and state of the art orthopaedic equipment.  Knox Private Hospital and our rooms are conveniently located on Mountain Hwy and are easily accessible via Burwood Hwy, or by Eastlink.

Mr Donohue also operates from Ringwood Private Hospital which is located at 36 Mt Dandenong Road, East Ringwood.  He performs day case procedures only at this hospital once per month.

Surgical Fee Structure

If you wish to have your surgery performed at a private hospital you will need to either have private health insurance (not just Medicare) or be a self insured patient (pay for the cost of the surgery yourself).

Privately Insured Patients

If you have private health insurance we utilise the various ‘Gap cover’ systems for payment of surgical accounts via your health insurance fund. Please be advised however, that there may be a co-payment required for some health insurance funds and/or some surgical procedures. We will, at the time of booking your operative procedure, give you a fully itemized quote with regard to the out of pocket expenses you will incur for the surgery, including the costs associated with the anaesthetist and assistant surgeon. Any costs for Mr Donohue includes all consultations for 3 months postoperatively from the operation date.

Self Insured Patients

If you decide to have your surgery as a self insured patient we will provide a fully itemized quote which will include your out of pocket expenses for the hospital, surgeon, anaesthetist, assistant surgeon and any other aspect of the surgery that is required.

You can claim a portion of Mr Donohue's, the anaesthetist and assistant surgeons fee from Medicare. However, the hospital account is not claimable at all through Medicare.

Public Hospital Appointments

Mr Donohue consults and operates from The Alfred Hospital, South Yarra. If you would like to see Mr Donohue as a public patient in the Outpatient department at The Alfred Hospital you will need to ask your referring doctor to contact the hospital directly to make an appointment.
